How It Works For Acne and Acne Prone Skin

Preparing your skin
Very little preparation is required. A few simple steps are all that is needed to ensure your skin is in the best possible condition to receive the treatment.
- Pause all active ingredients such as retinoids and exfoliating acids three nights prior to treatment
- Avoid sun exposure and any skin sensitising treatments in the days before your appointment
- No injectables or cosmetic procedures two weeks before treatment
- Continue your daily sun protection right up until the day of your appointment.
Recovery and Downtime
One of the reasons Dermapen Microneedling is such a well regarded treatment is that the recovery is minimal and manageable.
Immediately after your treatment, your skin will appear flushed and feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn. This is a completely normal and expected response and typically settles within twenty four to forty eight hours.
In the days following your treatment, your skin may feel slightly dry or tight as it begins its repair process. Some clients experience very mild flaking or sensitivity, which again is temporary and a sign that the skin is actively regenerating.
To support your recovery, keep your skincare simple. Avoid active ingredients, sun exposure and any other cosmetic treatments for at least five to seven days post treatment. Sun protection is non negotiable during this period and should be applied daily without exception. This is not a temporary post treatment instruction. It is a lifelong skin health habit that underpins every result we are working to achieve.
Most clients return to their normal routine and are comfortable in social settings within twenty four to forty eight hours. There is no need to plan significant downtime around this treatment.
What to Expect and When
Microneedling is not a single session solution. The skin’s regenerative process takes time, and results build progressively with each treatment. Most clients begin to notice an improvement in skin texture, tone and overall quality after their second or third session, with more significant and lasting change becoming visible over the weeks and months that follow.
Think of it the way you would any long term investment in your health. Just as fitness requires consistency to produce and maintain results, so does skin. A single treatment will initiate a response, but a structured series is what creates meaningful, lasting change.
For this reason, many clients choose to approach their treatments as a series of four, spaced approximately four to six weeks apart, finding that this delivers the most progressive and lasting results. That said, there is no obligation to commit to a series. Single treatments are equally welcome, and many clients choose to continue this way indefinitely.
Following your initial series, many clients choose to continue with periodic maintenance treatments to preserve and build on their results, at a frequency that suits their skin, their schedule and their lifestyle.
Results also depend on what you do between treatments. Simple, supportive home care and daily sun protection are not optional extras. They are an integral part of achieving and maintaining what we are working toward together.
